Traditional Food

nangka-2014981.jpg

Traditional foods fall under the novel food regulation and are minimally processed whole foods such as seaweeds, plants, plant flours, seeds, nuts, legumes., etc., that have been consumed as part of the customary diet of a significant amount of the population in a third country.

In the EU, you need to demonstrate a safe history of continuous consumption for a period of 25 years.

You will need to build a body of evidence to support the safety & traditional use of your product & then submit a traditional food notification to the EC & EFSA.

The traditional food route offers a quicker access to market & if there are no safety concerns raised by the EU Member States then your product could be authorised within 3 months.
